AFTER school PROGRAMMES

MTB in Paradise offers 5-week after school programmes designed to teach kids the fundamentals of mountain biking with the convenience of being in the school grounds.  Contact us if you would like a programme run at your school.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday

Time:

3.15pm - 4.15pm

Programme Duration:

5 weeks

Location:

School oval or a field close by

Ages:

Primary - Years 4, 5 and 6

Secondary - Years 7, 8 and 9

Group Size:

Maximum 15 students

Requirements:

- Riders are required to bring their own bike, preferably with gears and offroad tyres

- a helmet that meets Australian safety standards

- enough water for 90 minutes of exercise

Costs:

$85 for the 5 week programme

$30 optional end of term Nerang National Park ride

Bad Weather:

In the event of bad weather we will move under cover or you may pick your child up.  Like and follow MTBinParadise on Facebook for updates.  In all cases, notifications will be given by 2.30pm

Qualification:

All instructors are trained and recognised by the national body (MTBA), hold current first aid certificates and QLD blue cards.

Insurance:

MTB In Paradise holds $20m public liability and $5m professional indemnity insurance through the national body MTBA.

Programme:

Week 1

Safety - Checking our helmet and our bike

Body Balance - Freeing ourselves up on the bike, forwards and backwards, side to side.

Ready Position - Make ourselves ready for any bumps and attack ‘the ramp’ for the first time.

Start/Stop - Getting on and off safely on trails, those hills can be tricky.

 

Week 2

Cornering - Moving side to side.  Flat pedals, pedal down cornering.

Braking - How to brake efficiently.

 

Week 3

Climbing/Descending - Where should our weight be and what is the right gear.

Advanced Ramp - Attack the ramp on its biggest setting.

Crashing – How to roll properly when you come off.

 

Week 4

Ratcheting - How to avoid that rock or tree.

Track Stands - Stop at the obstacle without putting your feet down.

 

Week 5

Wheel lifts - Front and rear, building to a good bunny hop.  Use the ‘Manual machine’.
